Although snow is not guaranteed in the middle regions of the 'Erzgebirge', the months of November to March often offer adequate to exceptional winter sport conditions in Wolkenstein. Enough steep slopes for sled parties and downhill skiing makes active recreation in winter also possible.
There are cross-country skiing possibilities on hiking and bike trails, and depending on the snow conditions across country though snowy landscapes. If you prefer ski pistes with chair lifts and regular cross-country ski tracks, these can be found in the district town of Marienberg 10 km away or in the higher reaches of the 'Erzgebirge'.
